This fall's voter's pamphlet might be loaded with Dutchmen.

Washington County Commissioner Andy Duyck intends to join Jeff Duyck, his second cousin, on the campaign trail.

Andy Duyck (the Dutch surname is pronounced “dike”) lives in House District 30, which covers North Plains, Rock Creek and rural Washington County north of Forest Grove and Cornelius.

The legislative seat is currently held by first-term Democrat Dave Edwards, who is running for re-elction in fall. Edwards was elected to the statehouse in 2006 by snagging 57 percent of the vote against Republican Curry Everett.

Duyck didn’t run in the May primary, when Andy Meyer won an uncontested bid for the Republican nomination for House District 30.

Meyer, however, is expected to decline the nomination, leaving a hole on the ballot,

The News-Times was unable to reach Meyer, but Nick Smith, a spokesman for the House Republicans, confirmed that their current candidate is expected to bow out, requiring the party to chose a replacement at a nominating convention this summer.

If that happens, Andy Duyck says he'll throw his hat in the Republican ring.
