“The Music Man” is coming to Theatre in the Grove, but it’s not just any production.
The one opening Friday is part of TITG’s Children’s After School Theatre Playhouse, or CAST, a new summer program designed to give local youth an opportunity to be involved in drama onstage and off.
“Music Man Junior” features a cast and crew of 40 young people ranging in age from eight to 17. They’ll sing favorites such as “76 Trombones,” “Goodnight My Someone,” “Wells Fargo Wagon” and “Shipoopi.”
Admission to CAST Playhouse productions is $3. Snacks are available for 25 cents.
Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings, July 23, 24, 30 and 31, at 7 p.m.
Sunday matinees are July 25 and Aug. 1 at 2:30 p.m., with two Wednesday evening performances on July 28 and Aug. 4 at 7 p.m.
Made possible in part by grants from the Regional Arts & Culture Council and Work for Art, young actors have the opportunity to learn about theater while staging three different plays throughout the summer at no charge to participants.
The first CAST Playhouse
production, “The Saddest King,” written and directed by Mickey Johnson, was performed in June.
