Plans to build a life skills instructional facility on Cedar Street to serve Forest Grove School District special education students won approval from city planners Monday night.
In a unanimous vote, members of the Forest Grove Planning Commission gave the green light to a conditional use permit request from the district to construct a 2,350-square-foot single-family home at 2147 Cedar St., across from Pacific University.
Brad Bafaro, the district’s special education director, said 80 to 120 students would gather there during the day to learn about budgeting, cooking, housekeeping and how to access public transportation.
Construction could begin in the next couple months, with students occupying the space by fall 2011. Members of Forest Grove High School’s Viking House crew are slated to handle the bulk of the construction, Bafaro noted.
