Fire Inspector Dave Nemeyer posted a note on the social networking Internet site July 10 recognizing a pair of Forest Grove Fire & Rescue paramedics for their help in delivering a healthy baby boy earlier that day.
Turns out the baby was Nemeyer’s own son, Benjamin Dale Nemeyer, born around 5:20 a.m. that morning.
Benjamin is the fourth child of Dave and Aimee Nemeyer of Forest Grove. Their other children are Paul, 8; Henry, 5; and Jonathan, 2.
“This was our second planned home birth,” Nemeyer said last week as he got ready to take the newly-augmented family out to a local berry patch. “But it just happened really quick.
“Our midwife was on her way from Portland. I got a little nervous and called for backup just in case there were any complications.”
Paramedics Rick Ilg and Will Murphy arrived at the Nemeyer home just after Benjamin made his debut. They prepped and clamped the umbilical cord, which the proud new daddy cut himself.
“As soon as we pulled out of the station they let us know over the radio the baby had been born, said Ilg, who recognized the address as Nemeyer’s. “When we got there, they were just sitting and resting. Aimee was very calm and collected.”
The new arrival weighed in at a whopping 9 pounds, 14 ounces.
“His due date was July 17, so he was born at 39 weeks,” said Aimee. “I was expecting a 40-week, 10-pound baby, so it was all a bit of a surprise.”
She gave Murphy and Ilg a big pat on the back.
“It turned out there were no real complications — it’s a natural thing — but it was good to know they were there,” said Aimee, 27. “They did a fabulous job.”
