When David Edwards announced he wouldn’t seek re-election to the state house of representatives, Shawn Lindsay, his Republican opponent, said he expected to see some cash fall out of the money tree.
It seems as if he was right.
Lindsay posted a series of big checks to the state’s election reporting database, Orestar, following Edwards’ announcement July 6.
Lindsay gathered $2,000 checks from the Oregon Beverage PAC and the House Republicans PAC, Promote Oregon Leadership.
He also garnered a $1,500 check from Robinson Construction, Co.
In addition, Lindsay got $1,000 checks from Republican lawmaker Andy Olson and Charles Swindells, a Portland wealth advisor, and a $500 check from Peter Stott, president of Columbia Investments in Portland.
All told, Lindsay has reported $9,300 in donations so far for the month of July.
Doug Ainge, who was nominated by the Democratic Party to run in place of Edwards, also picked up hefty checks in July: 1,000 from Democratic lawmaker Mary Nolan and $2,000 from House Speaker Dave Hunt.
But Ainge, who’s raised about $4,000 total, has a ways to go before matching Lindsay’s $30,000 for this year.
